Inclined Elevator Mühlenkopfliner

Ski-Club Willingen e.V., Willingen, Germany

The existing system, a 20-person funicular lift built in 2001, has served the ski club exceptionally well for many years. It formed the basis of a partnership that has now lasted for more than 25 years between the Willingen Ski Club and ABS Transportbahnen. However, the demands have increased. At the same time, the opening of the nearby Skywalk has significantly increased the need for a fast and comfortable way to reach the top. The new cabin now accommodates up to 50 passengers instead of the previous 20 and takes them to the summit in approximately 3.5 minutes. Compared to the old funicular, the new inclined elevator offers greater capacity, more comfort, and state-of-the-art operation, including automated processes. These were precisely the reasons for switching to the modern 50-person inclined elevator system.

The system has five track cables and two counter cables and is equipped with four stations. The bottom and top stations each have two doors for a rapid passenger flow, while the intermediate stops “Hasenstall” and “Kampfrichterturm” are specially designed for events.

Ride comfort has also been significantly improved – a modern cabin, reliable controls, and robust construction ensure that the system can be operated safely and comfortably in the long term. This forward-looking project strengthens Willingen as a winter sports destination as well as tourism in the entire region and creates ideal conditions for visitors year-round.

The system was designed in accordance with European Directive 2014/33/EU and commissioned in coordination with a European notified body.
